Many children develop a fear of math early on because it is often taught purely through memorization and boring worksheets. But math is actually just a puzzle! If you introduce it as a game rather than a chore, your child’s brain will naturally start looking for patterns.

Here are 5 easy, completely free games you can play at home to make math fun:

1. The Supermarket Budget Game

Next time you go grocery shopping, give your 7-year-old a calculator and a “budget” of Rs 500. Ask them to add up the prices of the items in the cart and tell you when you are getting close to the limit. It teaches them addition, decimals, and financial literacy simultaneously.

2. Lego Fractions

Fractions are notoriously hard for kids to visualize. Grab some Lego bricks. Show them a block with 8 studs. Explain that this is “1 whole.” Letting them physically build and break apart fractions makes the concept click instantly.

3. The License Plate Addition Race

If you are stuck in traffic, play this game. Look at the license plate of the car in front of you. The first person to add all the numbers together correctly gets a point.

4. Playing Card War (Multiplication style)

Take a standard deck of cards. You both flip over one card at the same time. The first person to multiply the two numbers correctly gets to keep both cards.

5. Baking Together (Measurement Math)

Cooking is pure math. Have your child help you bake a cake. Measuring liquids and weighing solids is practical geometry and arithmetic!
