Procrastination isn’t about laziness; it’s about the fear of starting a “big” task. When we think about writing a 20-page report or cleaning the entire kitchen, our brain gets overwhelmed and shuts down. The Two-Minute Rule is the ultimate hack to bypass that mental resistance.

The Rule is Simple If a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. If a task takes more than two minutes, start it for just two minutes.

Why it works The “Start” Barrier: Most of our procrastination comes from the mental effort required to start. Once you have actually started, the friction disappears, and you will almost always finish the task. Small Wins: When you complete a “two-minute task,” your brain releases dopamine, which gives you the energy to move on to the next task.

Example: Instead of thinking “I need to clean the whole house,” tell yourself, “I am just going to put away these laundry clothes.” That takes two minutes. Once you are up and moving, you’ll find yourself cleaning the desk, then the floor, and suddenly, you’ve cleaned the whole room!
