5 Low-Maintenance Indoor Plants That Purify the Air in Your Bedroom

Indoor air can actually be more polluted than outdoor air due to poor ventilation, chemical cleaning products, and the synthetic fibers in our furniture. Adding a few indoor plants to your bedroom is the easiest, most aesthetically pleasing way to filter out those toxins.

1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

This is the ultimate bedroom plant. While most plants only release oxygen during the day, the Snake Plant releases oxygen continuously at night while you sleep. It is nearly indestructible — it requires very little light and only needs watering once every 2-3 weeks.

2. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas Zamiifolia)

If your bedroom has tiny windows and very little natural light, the ZZ plant is your best friend. It survives in low light and thrives on neglect. Just water it when the soil is completely bone dry.

3. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

According to a famous NASA study, the Peace Lily is one of the top plants for filtering out toxic chemicals like ammonia and benzene from the air.

4. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

Perfect for hanging baskets or the top of a bookshelf. It is incredibly safe for pets (non-toxic to cats and dogs) and aggressively filters out carbon monoxide and formaldehyde.

5. Aloe Vera

Beyond being a handy remedy for sunburns, Aloe Vera is an excellent air purifier. It requires a sunny spot, so keep it near a window.
